Commission on Preparation for Ministry (CPM)

Membership: The Presbytery shall elect, in accord with the Constitution, a Commission on Preparation for Ministry consisting of 12 Teaching or Ruling Elders, including the
chair. Members serve a three-year term and may serve for up to six years.

Focus: The Commission is to provide for the recruitment, nurture, care and oversight of inquirers and candidates for the ministry as provided for in the Constitution, and
with the care and oversight of candidates for certification as church educators. The Commission is given authority by Presbytery to dismiss candidates as provided in the Constitution and is to report actions taken to the next stated meeting of Presbytery.

A careful process is outlined for the care of inquirers for the ministry, oversight of candidates for ordination, and appointing readers of ordination exams. A liaison
responsibility with inquirers/candidates is expected.

Skills/Requirements: Breadth of theological, biblical and historical understanding; extensive experience in ministry and local congregations; counseling skills; sense of inclusiveness and appreciation of diversity; willingness to put service as a top priority during term.

Meeting Dates: Three to four times a year, typically a month before each Presbytery meeting. Most meetings start on a Friday at 1 p.m. and conclude Saturday afternoon after lunch. Meetings are typically held on Zoom.

*All travel-related expenses (meals, mileage, lodging) are reimbursed by the presbytery.
